Fishy Fridays
By Tight Fly Lines
Hey [FIRST NAME GOES HERE],
Welcome to the new and improved Fishy Fridays—simpler, sharper, and built to help you fish smarter every weekend.
Each week, I’ll send you one practical tip, one fly to try, and one piece of inspiration to help you fish smarter—and enjoy your time on the water even more.
I’d love to know what you think—just hit reply or use the quick feedback form below:
Don’t fish the middle first. When you approach a stream or river, it’s tempting to cast straight to the middle. But trout often hold much closer than you think.
Start by fishing the softer water near the bank—the slower, slightly deeper pockets just a few steps out. These zones often form where fast and slow currents meet (called “seams”), especially around rocks, grass edges, or subtle drop-offs.
Work your way out, one section at a time. You’ll spook fewer fish and catch more of them.
🪰 One Fly to Try This Weekend
Juju Baetis (Size 18–20) Spring BWOs are starting to hatch—especially on overcast days or light rain. The Juju Baetis imitates baetis nymphs just before they emerge—and it’s deadly.
Where to fish it: Shallow riffles, tailouts, or soft seams where trout intercept bugs. Fish it as a dropper behind a heavier anchor fly.
Why it works: The subtle profile, flash, and small size make it perfect for clear water and pressured fish.
📸 One Inspiring Post
I caught this stunning cutbow earlier this week—honestly, the video doesn’t do it justice. It's one of the prettiest trout I’ve ever landed.
Cutbows are a hybrid between rainbow and cutthroat trout. Look for the rosy stripe, heavy spotting near the tail, and bright orange slash under the jaw. Some also have white-tipped fins like rainbows.
They fight hard, look wild, and combine the best of both fish.
That's all for now. I'm curious to know what you think about the new format! Have a great weekend!
